July 2020 Newsletter
It feels like the 4th of July was yesterday and suddenly it’s already fair time, so the summer is flying by as usual. We were fortunate in celebrating Independence Day at a point where the COVID climate appeared to be improving. But with the current mandates, it’s now feeling more like a regression and it’s becoming more and more difficult to host community events. That being the case, the Chamber Board met recently to discuss our program of work for the remainder of the year.
In recent years, the Chamber has sponsored an educational seminar/workshop during the summer to address topics that impact local businesses. Our Building a Better Broadus committee has also typically organized a community networking event in the early fall. The status of both of these events is currently up-in-the-air as we consider options and an alternative that could potentially combine the two later this fall.
Our Ag Expo/Ag Appreciation night slated for November has regrettably been cancelled. With vendors traveling from out of area, venue limitations and group dining, this event simply does not lend itself to social distancing and sanitation requirements. However, the Christmas Stroll is still planned for December and due consideration will be taken when organizing public activities.
As we approach the election, please watch for updates on a potential Local Candidate Forum. We are only in the early planning stages, but we do hope to provide some opportunity for an interaction and exchange between the candidates and voters.
As you can see, we’re facing challenging times that have forced us to change the way we operate. Many non-profit organizations are struggling during this time, so we appreciate your continued support. If you are interested in volunteering with us, we are still looking to fill board vacancies. We would also encourage you to email us (powderriverchamber@gmail.com) if you have thoughts or suggestions on the role you think the Chamber should take during this crisis.
