August 2020 Newsletter

As the summer winds down we want to wish the students, parents and faculty all the best as they embark on another year of school.  It’s quite an adjustment from normal, but we’re hoping for a fun, healthy and productive year!

The Building a Better Broadus Committee of the Powder River Chamber is excited to partner in bringing the “Reimagining Rural” program to Broadus!  Communities across Montana will participate in a three-night event featuring a virtual gathering with national experts sharing innovative yet practical ideas for improving rural communities.  Speakers include Ben Winchester (University of Minnesota Extension Center for Community) and Becky McCray and Deb Brown (SaveYour.Town). Ben will share his “brain gain” research countering the negative perceptions that are common for rural communities. Deb and Becky will share practical, inexpensive and specific ways to improve small-towns using existing resources.  A final evening will feature idea-sharing from participating communities and Q&A from the speakers.

Help us as we rewrite Montana’s rural narrative and share some positive ideas to re-energize and re-focus on a bright future for Broadus!  Talks are scheduled for 6-8 p.m. on September 15, September 29, and October 13 at the Broadus Community Center.   Join us for supper at one or all of these free programs. For more information or to RSVP for catering, please email powderriverchamber@gmail.com

With the election approaching, we’re also pleased to announce some initial details on our Local Candidate Forum, which is tentatively scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, October 6th. Candidates for Powder River County Commissioner will participate in discussions on prepared topics as well as live public questions.  Due to COVID concerns, the event will take place in a closed area but will be broadcast live online via our Chamber Facebook page.  More details are to come on this event but we encourage you to participate by submitting questions/topics to our email or Facebook page.
